Who are we and why we are doing this?
We are The Chance Project: a group of 20 kids that believe in making a difference. Our group was officially formed on January 29, 2012. Our goal is to raise money to help communities in need to survive.
Our First Project: Sierra Leone
At our first meeting, The Chance Project group voted on where we would focus our efforts. It was collectively decided that we could attempt to raise enough money to build a school in Sierra Leone. We chose Sierra Leone because they overcame a horrible civil war where many schools were destroyed. Our goal is to build a school in this country so that a community can get back on track and start educating their youth. Building a school will also help the community by providing employment for construction workers and teachers.
All the money we raise will be given to Free the Children, and their staff will distribute the funds accordingly. Please do not hesitate to learn more by following this link: http://www.freethechildren.com/

The Kids!
Christian Vander VoetI am Christian Vander Voet. I am 15 years old and in grade 10. When I was in Grade 7, I went to the Me 2 We concert where many inspirational speakers talked about kids making a difference. Craig Kielburger the founder of Free The Children and my role model spoke at this concert. I was inspired to make a difference. Since then I have felt passionate about helping people around the world. So in January a couple years ago, I got together with my friends and The Chance Project was created. I hope through this group we can save the lives of people all around the world. I took the chance to make a chance.

Josh BlazinaMy name is Joshua Blazina. I am 15 years old and in grade 10. I first heard of this growing issue in grade 7 when we had an assembly at our school with guest speakers from Free The Children. The speeches really impacted my life, and ever since then I have tried to learn more about the multiple issues that affect children in third world countries. When Christian Vander Voet introduced me to The Chance Project. I felt that this was my time to put my inspiration to work. I hope that The Chance Project expands so that it becomes a key factor to the solution of global water crisis. I took the chance to make a chance.

Jacob WickwareI am Jacob Wickware. I am 15 years old and in grade 10. I want to help these kids in developing countries because it’s just not fair. It’s not fair that we were born here and they weren’t. What if our roles were switched and we were living there? If it was like that, I would hope they would be doing the same. With all the terrible things happening in our world like war and child soldiers, us as humans need to help each other so we can live in a better place. That’s why I want to build schools for innocent kids. They never did anything wrong so why should they live in a different world than us? I hope that we can develop their world enough so they can live in a better world. I took the chance to make a chance.

Matthew BlazinaI’m Matthew Blazina. I’m 12 years old and in grade 7. The Chance Project inspired me when I was 9 years old. My life long friend Julian Vander Voet and his older brother, founder of The Chance Project, brought me in to the group. I believe that we can make a difference and save people from poverty and death. I took the chance to make a chance.

Tanner WickwareI am Tanner Wickware. I am 12 years old and in grade 7. I am in this group because I have been inspired because of all the sad things people have said about the tough life the people of Sierra Leone have to live. I’ve seen pictures and compared the life of the Sierra Leone people to people here. And I cannot imagine myself living the way they do. That’s why I joined The Chance Project, so everyone can live the same way! I took the chance to make a chance.

Jared DokeI’m Jared Doke. Christian, the founder of this group, is my cousin. When I found out that he wanted me to join, I was so excited, knowing how many poor people in other countries I could help. Even though this group just started, I can already tell it will be a huge success. Who knows, maybe one day, we will be invited to We Day to talk about how it only takes one being to make a difference. I hope we can educate, and save millions of lives as this group develops. I took the chance to make a chance.
